PULLMAN — While the winner of the $47 million Mega Millions lottery has kept a low profile, the store where the ticket was purchased has received quite a bit of attention.
Al’s Total Services, 2625 109th Ave., sold the lucky ticket, and it probably surprised the winner as much as store owner Al Baugus. “It’s outrageous,” Baugus said of the amount of the prize. “Something that big in this small of a town.”
Baugus said he knows who the winner is, but “I won’t talk. As a store owner, I will hold his respect. He’s a nice guy. He deserves it.”
The winner of the Mega Millions jackpot has a year to claim the $47 million, according to Jennifer Quimby, a spokeswoman for Michigan Lottery, which participates in the drawing along with 10 other states. Quimby said it is not unusual for winners to wait awhile to claim their money.
“It just depends on the person,” she said.
Baugus said he’s not surprised the winner hasn’t come forward yet.
“I’m sure he wants to talk with a financial adviser and so forth,” Baugus said.
Talk of the huge prize has excited the Pullman area, Baugus said. It’s mostly local residents who stop at Al’s Total near the four corners that mark the unincorporated village of Pullman.
But second homeowners and vacationers on nearby Scott Lake also stop at the gas station and convenience store.
The $47 million Mega Millions jackpot is the largest one won by a Michigan resident so far, Quimby said.
The next highest amount was $23.3 million, which was won in November by a Battle Creek resident.
States that participate in the Mega Millions lottery drawing are Michigan, Georgia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Texas, Virginia and Washington.
UK: £100,000 LOTTERY WINNER IS FOUND
A lucky Lichfield resident is in the money starting from yesterday after scooping £105,585 on the Lotto.
Lottery operator Camelot had launched a search to find the Togel Online winner after they were late coming forward and today revealed they had claimed their cash prize.
But fellow Lotto players will not get to find out who the lucky person is, because they have opted for no publicity.
The winning ticket was bought at an outlet in the city for the Wednesday night draw on June 30, and the winning numbers were 11, 12, 15, 29, 37, 43 and the bonus ball was 45.
Because no one had come forward within a month Camelot launched a search to find the winner. If it went unclaimed by December 27, the money would have been pumped into the Good Causes fund.
